My husband and I walk a lot. It’s our main source of exercise. I’ve been reminded that we should stretch after our walk, and sometimes I did, but most of the time I forgot about it, got home and started getting things ready for dinner.
Thursday was the day to register my son for Middle school. We decided we’d all walk there together, register him, and walk back home. We’d be getting two things done at the same time.
We got a few blocks away from our house, where we had to cross a street. A car stopped for us and we all started to hurry across; except the moment I pushed off with my foot, I felt a pop and there was excruciating pain in my calf.
Somehow I made it across the street; I think I hopped on one leg while my husband held my hand. My son and I waited on the side of the road while my husband went to get the car.
Turns out I had torn my calf muscle. I didn’t make stretching a priority after our walks, and now I am in a boot and on crutches. As soon as I get better, I am going to stretch after every walk, and I am going to take better care of my body.
Some things are so important, yet we forget or don’t see the importance of doing them. Is there something you’ve been reminded to do several times? Something you know you should be doing but haven’t made time for?
